We will also assess the progress of The Last Well: Liberia over the coming months. Although wells have been assessed as the most effective long-term solution for the citizens of Liberia we will also provide clean water though other creative, proven techniques as necessary. These techniques include importing of water filtration units (portable and permanent), water purification additives, and local low-cost water filtration solutions that can be produced indigenously.

Bottom line – we are committed to giving glory to God as we provide clean water solutions to an entire nation. Our hope is that other Christian churches, denominations, and organizations will accept our challenge to “do likewise” and reach developing people with creative solutions to their needs in Jesus’ name.

Imagine…a news report like this:

It’s January 22, 2013 at 1:43 PM (GMT) in Liberia. We are reporting live at the location of THE LAST WELL. The Last Well Movement has accomplished in just five short years what many thought impossible. With THE LAST WELL being completed this very minute, The Last Well Movement has provided clean water to the entire nation and they’ve done it all, as they say, “in the name of Christ.” Over the past five years this Christian organization has moved literally from border to border in Liberia digging wells and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with every community they serve.

It can happen. With God’s grace and the passionate pursuit of Christian young adults from all over America we can see the imaginary report become reality! Join God. Join us!

Consider Liberia. Liberia is a beautiful coastal country in West Africa. In the midst of its rolling plains and majestic wildlife there are 1.8 million people who do not have access to safe, affordable water. That is the population of the metropolitan area of San Antonio, Texas. Imagine an entire major American city with access only to unsafe, disease-infested water. In the US it is unimaginable. Yet, 1.8 million people wake up every day in Liberia without affordable access to safe water. Our goal is to remedy that problem.

Why Liberia? Liberia meets all the essential requirements for this world-changing mission:

It’s on the continent of Africa. We want to reach the neediest of the needy first. The need in Africa is great. We want to stop the death and suffering there now, in Christ’s name.

Africa is in the news. Governments, Hollywood, and NGO’s are focused on Africa. That focus doesn’t make Africa any more special in God’s eyes than any other continent, but we believe that God can use that focus to leverage what He will accomplish in Liberia to bring clean water to other nations in great need, in Africa and elsewhere. The ending date. With God’s direction and involvement, we believe clean water can be provided to all of Liberia in less than five years. This vision is possible in a finite timeframe. As we have shared this vision with young adults around America, they all say that they want to be a part of something that shows God’s grandeur and His ability to accomplish a task that is bigger than men can accomplish on their own. Geography. Liberia is a coastal country with very few topographical and geographical obstacles or limitations. In other words, the structure of the ground is such that wells can be drilled with relatively few limitations. This allows us to move quickly and maximize our efforts.

Politics. Although Liberia has many political challenges, it affords us a relatively calm political climate. Political upheaval creates many of the challenges to providing clean water to other African countries.

Join us in providing safe affordable water for every Liberian in Jesus’ name.

Join us in sharing the message of Jesus Christ with the 1.8 million people we serve through this project.

Join us as we witness God bring countless Liberians into His family.

Join us as we watch God’s name honored for His activity though His people!

1.1 BILLION PEOPLE LACK CLEAN WATER (1 IN 6 PEOPLE)

1 CHILD DIES FROM LACK OF CLEAN WATER EVERY FIFTEEN (15) SECONDS

PREVENTABLE, WATER-RELATED DISEASES KILL NEARLY FOURTEEN THOUSAND (14,000) PEOPLE DAILY

That’s the problem. Unsafe water is the world’s number one killer. The lack of safe drinking water and proper sanitation results in more deaths every year than AIDS or Malaria. It kills more people every year than all forms of violence, including war! Children are the most vulnerable to the effects of unsafe drinking water and sanitation problems. Of the thousands of people who die daily from this problem, 90% are children under the age of five. Unsafe drinking water is responsible for 80% of all the sicknesses in the world. It’s hard to comprehend the scope of the disease and loss of life that results from preventable, water-related illness! That’s right it’s all preventable.

Seventy percent (70%) of the earth is covered in water. Because of the amount of water covering the planet and the fact that clean drinking water and proper sanitation is accessible to most Americans, we find it difficult to imagine that lack of clean water could possibly be the source of such misery and loss. It helps though to understand that 97.5% of the water covering the earth is salt water, undrinkable. That leaves only 2.5% of the earth’s water available for more than six billion people on the planet. Even more disconcerting, 69.5% of the fresh water on the planet is locked inside glaciers, snow, and permafrost! 30.1% of the fresh water is deep underground in fresh water aquifers. Only .4% is in surface lakes, rivers, and air humidity!

Thinks about this – the average American uses upwards of 150 gallons of water every day to cook, clean, and drink. The average person in the developing world struggles to find five gallons each day, and sometimes has to walk three or four hours round trip each day to collect the water they use.

Economics then becomes a factor. Most people in developing countries live on less than two dollars ($2) a day. Even though many of them literally live on top of fresh water aquifers, they simply cannot afford to drill wells that cost from $3000 to $15,000 a piece.

The problem is huge. But, there is a solution.
